We provided the MEP design services for the refurbishment of artist studios and co-working spaces for Raqib Shaw, housed within a former sausage factory in Peckham. The project required a pragmatic, budget-conscious approach – creating functional, comfortable workspaces while retaining the character and economy of the existing industrial building.
Our design focused on robust, cost-appropriate mechanical and electrical systems that met the day-to-day needs of multiple artists working across varied practices. We delivered efficient heating, ventilation and power distribution tailored to large-format artwork production, mixed-use studio occupation and flexible co-working arrangements, all without resorting to unnecessary or high-specification solutions.
By working closely with the wider design team, we ensured that building services were integrated unobtrusively, preserved the building’s distinctive atmosphere and supported its long-term adaptability. The result is a reliable, economical MEP strategy that enables a thriving shared studio environment for the artistic community.
